Last day, still Thursday

Image
After the bookstore adventure, we wenr to visit Jayant’s parents whom I have not seen yet. We visited fobr a while and then we walked about 1/2 mile or so to visit this temple. A Hindu temple with several Gods’ and Godessess’ statues. Here are some photos of that temple, I just wished I had had a real vacation instead of my hospital stay.

2nd day out of hospital

Today, Thursday, is the last day in Bangalore, we leave Friday at 3:00 am to Frankfurt and the direct to Austin. I am much better able to walk (better than Biden now) longer distances but still get tired. We may have a short visit around town and , of course, visit a bookstore. I am already taking resisting pills not to buy books. Finally, this afternoon Ihad the opportunity of leaving the hotel and go arouhd town. We took unuber and went to a bookstore called Blossoms. It had the most incredible number of books, onvirtually any topic. Books were stacked at random although under a general subject. Like history you’d see all types of history books, rsnging from Xenophon’ Last Days of Socrates to a history of India. It is a bookstore to spend time leisurely. Contrary to my best intentions I ended buying about 6 books.

ITC Gardenia hotel

The hotel is virtuually nexxt to the hospital but they sent a hotel car to pick me up. It was very pleasant to face fresh air even though it was raining and early evening. I stayed in this hotel when I came for Andrea’s wedding 7 years ago. More later, I am getting tired and is about 4:30 am.

Out of the hospital

Finally, I was set to be relased on Monday, july 8.  After a final review by a couple of the specialists, Jayant got everything arranged for my exit from the hospital. The hospital bill came about $3,000 total. Not bad for a private room in a world class hospital. Daily meals were good, food was good but I had very little apetite, so I ended up losing another 12 lbs.

Fourth day in hospital

This is the fourth day in the hospital. It’s morning now so I’ll expect all the doctors with their entourage to come in shortly. This is an excellent hospital, very thorough specialists as well as generalists. But it’s still a hospital taking blood samples several times daily- they must be feeding the son of dracula. Photo is just to show the degree of my status. Not pleasant but still alive, I think.

India Hospivac

Still in the hospital, 3 days now. The good thingis that the hospital is excellent, modern rebuilt 2-3 years ago. When I was here last time, that I also needed to go see a doctor I came to this hospital and it was old, what you would expect in an undeveloped, 2nd world country. I’ve been checked by every specialist (cardiologists, pulmonologists, oncologists, urologists) in the hospital. My son-in-law Jayant says it’s because everyone wants a cut. They have pinpointed the source, some infection in the kidney.  I think I’ll be released tomorrow or the day after, but I have to stay in the area for two daily shots, for about 7-10 days. Hopefully will be fewer days. Vacation plans are over. Like Mike Tysson famously said “ you make your plans, and the reality smacks you in the head” We’ll stay in the area, making one day trips but mostly staying around Bangalore.

First few days

Flight to Bangalore  was noy good. Fever returned and I couldn’t even get up from my seat, needed assistance. Landed in Abu Dhabi but couldn’t enjoy the offerings in the lounge. The flght to Bangalore was a little better, checked in my hotel, arrived around 10, but by hotel revervation was lost so took a while to get it all straightened out. Next morning to check in the hospital. Nice modern with all the specialties. They’ve done multitude test to figure out the source of the infection. Shortly i’ll go to the oncology center, apparently there is a chance that I limphoma cancer. That should be treated in the US. This is part of the lounge that I did not get to enjoy
